Mothern is a commune in the Bas-Rhin, Alsace. The small town is just 6 km from the German border, near the Rhine, bordering Munchhausen and Wintzenbach. Mothern, pronounced in southern Modere Francique, takes its name from the Moder River, which once flowed into the Rhine.

With a typical architecture of the region, the church of Our Lady of the Visitation has a beautiful white facade and an interesting ordeal shrine dating from the eighteenth century. Inside the religious building full of wonders, like the canopy of Ott brothers twentieth century, a statue of St. Elizabeth of the eighteenth century, or the beautiful ceiling frame and organ nineteenth century.
Built in 1901, the Lourdes Grotto Mothern is on the road Neewiller-près-Lauterbourg. It was built by a couple who lost two children at birth, and according to legend, it would have allowed them to have two others.
Rare in Alsace, the Mothern outrigger wells are facing the home of Wacht and opposite the town hall. They allowed to draw water with a counterweight before the flow into a stone trough.
The home of Wacht serves cultural space to the city of Mothern. The building once served as a night guard for the village, and it now houses the headquarters of the Tourist Office, and a permanent exhibition on the Rhine.
