Located in the heart of the Yonne, Migennes is a city of nearly 7,200 inhabitants, in the heart of an agglomeration of about 15,000 inhabitants.

The site of Migennes is occupied since prehistoric times as evidenced by the discovery of burials dating from the Bronze Age (14th century BC) and an ancient mosaic of the 4th century (which can be discovered At the tourism office).

Mitiganna (634), Mitgana (9th century), Migennia (1160) then Migennes first developed on a hillock away. Today, this area called "Old Migennes" has kept a small village look grouped around the church Saint-Pancrace. This building dates from the 13th century for its oldest part (polygonal choir). The porch flanked by two turrets gives it a particular character and unique in the region.

The city owes its fame to its station called Laroche-Migennes in 1918 and also for being mocked by a talented singer, Jean Raymond "Laroche Mimi, Laroche Migennes..." at the time of the steam.

The construction of the Burgundy Canal, which begins here, then the famous PLM (Paris-Lyon-Marseille) railroad marks a new stage in the history of the city. The hamlet of the canal, south of the village, is gradually becoming important to become the heart of the city: the station, the canal ensure a great economic activity. It is also what will be worth to them to be hit hard during the bombing during the Second World War.

The bourgeoisie of Joigny (10 km north-west) and Auxerre (20 km south) did not wish to have the noise and dusty noise of locomotives waiting in the stations of yards at the time of the steam. Under pressure, they released fumes loaded with coal particles. Equidistant from Dijon and Paris to allow the exchange of these locomotives, the decision was made: the depot was therefore ideally located. Today the station remains the origin or the terminus of the TER trains for Auxerre, Dijon or Paris Gare de Lyon. It is the most important station of the department.

Migennes owes its development and its status as an industrial city to the development of the two communication channels (third site of the Yonne).

The city remains human-sized and gives importance to the sweetness of life: parks and gardens invite you to stroll.

Migennes is a dynamic city rich of an associative fabric of more than 120 organizations sporting, cultural, social... It does not happen a week without a organized animation in city.

At the heart of the city, near the train station, along the canal, the cabaret L'Escale offers each season a program that allows more than 8,000 spectators to discover new talents. The reputation of the cabaret migenne has long since crossed the icaunaises borders.

Classified as "three flowers" to the label on the regional list of Cities and Villages in bloom, Migennes is a commune harmoniously integrating the natural environment in the heart of the city. Particular attention is paid to the work of volume and the harmony of colors in the massifs. Each year, a theme is declined in the various natural areas of the city. The city is blooming from the first days of spring until the end of autumn. The public spaces are embellished, and the inhabitants also participate very strongly in the environment. A communal competition of flowered houses rewards every year individual houses, shops and balconies most beautifully decorated, the most beautiful vegetable gardens are also rewarded. The flower beds are spread over different strategic sites: city entrances, neighborhood centers. These floral decorations include annuals, grasses, vegetables, foliage plants, and orangery plants and perennials. For winter and spring, biennial plants take over. Finally, the autumn flowering is characterized by a decoration combining chrysanthemums, vegetables, grasses, decorations and minerals. Some figures: 34 745 different flowerings depending on the season, 590 summer bulbs, 1 526 chrysanthemums, 17 500 biannuals, 6 660 autumn bulbs!
