Charming village of Yonne, in the Bourgogne-France-Comté region, Brienon-sur-Armançon takes place about twenty kilometers from Auxerre, at the confluence of the Créanton and the Armançon. Crossed by the Burgundy Canal, it is located not far from Mont-Saint-Sulpice, Bellechaume and Venizy.
Ancient, the commune of Brienon-sur-Armançon developed mainly in the Middle Ages under the influence of the archbishops of Sens. Fortified during the Hundred Years War, it fell into the hands of the Burgundians for a few years in the first half of the 15th century. A bustling port during the time of floating on the Armançon and its tributaries, timber trains were assembled there before heading down to Paris. Hemp work, tannery, tan mills, fullers and grain mills developed with the presence of water. Sources and rus are very numerous there! The cultivation of the vine and the related trades have supported many families for decades.
Today the Burgundian city attracts passing visitors with the incredible richness of its historical and architectural heritage, of which the collegiate church of Saint-Loup is the jewel.
