The Château du Breuil is located in the eponymous town of Breuil, in Saône-et-Loire, a few kilometers east of Le Creusot.
Located on a plateau overlooking the Torcy pond, the building has medieval origins. In the 14th century, it was a fortified house which belonged to Guinard de Thélis then to Guy de Rochefort. In the 15th century, the estate became the seat of a marquisate and passed to the Beaudinot family and by marriage, in the 18th century, to Abraham de Thélis. Shortly before the Revolution, the grandson of the latter restored the castle in a neo-classical style and then emigrated in 1793.
In 1910, the estate was acquired by the Schneider family, which owned the forges and metallurgical companies in the Creusot.
Finally, the site, which was made available to scouts in France from the interwar period, became the property of the association in 1972. It still hosts gatherings throughout the year.
From an architectural point of view, endowed with a large and beautiful park, the château takes the form of a rectangular dwelling flanked by a wing. The north-east facade has a forepart with Ionic pilasters framing a triangular pediment with oculus and on the south-west facade, this decoration is made up of Tuscan pilasters and the pediment is arched.
The exteriors of the castle (park) are generally open to the public but the castle is only accessible occasionally.
