The Maison des Petits Palets also known as the "Maison des Plaids" is located in the historic center of Dol-de-Bretagne, in Ille-et-Vilaine, 25 km south-east of Saint-Malo.
It is precisely located in the main artery of the city, the Grande rue des Stuarts, which owes its name to the fact that the dynasty originated in the city.
The Petits Palets house was built in the 12th century and then remodeled in the 17th century. Built in granite, it is considered to be the oldest in the Brittany region, the other dwellings on the street being mostly half-timbered houses.
Built according to an "L" plan, comprising two floors, the Maison des Petits Palets has three semicircular arcades on the front: on the left, a double arcade rests on a central pillar and on the right a simple arcade is framed by each side by a pillar. These arcades are carved with geometric friezes, the capitals of the pillars also having ornamentation.
Symbolizing the religious and commercial development of the Dol-de-Bretagne at the end of the Middle Ages, the house is protected as historical monuments. It is still private property and houses a flower shop on the ground floor. You can admire the superb facade during a free or guided walk in the old center. Information on 08 25 135 200.
