- The origin:
- The origin of Ballancourt is lost in the mists of time. The name is Roman or Latin Ballancourt. It is composed of "Ballan", Latinized name of a French nobleman, who was in the Middle Ages Frileuse Castle, located in what is now Saint-Martin, and the ending "Court" would be a transformation of Latin "curtis".
- The rocks located at the highest part of the wood show the presence of a collective human life during the prehistoric times and early AD (manufactures of stone tools, rock cored: Druidic altar alleged) event confirmed by the expansion of shelters decorated in Butte.
