The Château de la Moissétie is a manor house located in the town of Aurillac, in Cantal.
Located to the north-east of the town, on a hillside bordering the former royal road going up the Jordanne valley, it was the seat of a viguerie (fiefdom) belonging to the Moisset family, several of whose members were viguiers at the abbey of Aurillac.
Built in the 13th century, the castle changed owners at the end of the 15th century. It then passed to the de La Roque family and then to the Brunon family who kept it until the end of the 20th century.
Built with materials typical of the Cantal region (volcanic stones - basalt, granites - in shades of gray), the castle is made up of a rectangular main building on three levels (the last under the attic) to which is adjoining a large round tower which was extensively remodeled at the beginning of the 20th century.
Some old elements have been preserved on the north side of the building.
Of noble appearance, the estate includes parks and gardens recently redesigned and embellished and one enjoys remarkable views of the peaks or the valley.
The castle houses guest rooms and can be visited from time to time (the interiors have certainly been modernized, however, retaining elements of antique furniture and period decor).
The site can also mark out a walk in a bucolic environment. Information on +33 6 07 16 24 38 or +33 4 71 64 14 82.
