The city of Alleins is one of 5 towns forming the massif des Costes. It is also composed of Will, La Barben and Pélissanne Vernègues. Alleins is located between the Alpilles and the Luberon.
The traces of human life on the village date back to 4000 years... Over the centuries, Alleins becoming a key supply point on the road of transhumance towards the Alps and on the paths of salt. From the tenth century, a "Castelas" settled on the rock of the present village, and gradually the houses were built around.
Provençal culture is also preserved; notably through the tradition of Camargue races "in the roundel" the arena of the village, which take place throughout the summer.
