Excellent property in remote location
Negotiations with the owner (with the help of Google Translate) went well, and because it was the end of the season, we were able to take advantage of low cost flights, and travel Wednesday to Wednesday. Despite the fact that, due to getting lost, we arrived at about midnight, and the owner had gone to bed, we had a warm welcome. The apartment was reasonably clean and spacious, with a good outlook for the lounge, kitchen, and double bedroom, but the twin bedroom, although boasting a window, actually looked into a barn. Well equipped with everything but a kettle (we English do like our tea), the apartment, in the main suited our needs very well. The only downside, in our opinion, and some may find it an upside, is the location. The apartment is situated on an island in the middle of the Rhone opposite the city of Avignon. There is a free park and ride service from the island to the city, and also a free ferry service. It is however a long way by road from the house to the park and ride, or by foot to the ferry. Avignon itself is a lovely city, and is also well placed to visit other points of interest such as the Pont du Gard, Gordes, the Fontaine de Vaucluse (although I would say it is probably only worth visiting here in May), and even via the motorway system, Cassis (a beautiful port on the coast), and Montpellier (to and from which we flew). Montpellier has a nice beach, which we took advantage of on our last day. We had a very enjoyable holiday, with no concerns about the property whatsoever.
