The old Christofle factory

Tourism, holidays & weekends guide in the Seine-Saint-Denis

Since it was founded in 1877, the Bouilhet-Christofle silverware factory in La Plaine Saint-Denis has kept its sense of architectural unity. In this industrial village that is now a listed Historic Monument, the various buildings that tell the story of the factory's operations are organised according to the needs of production, from the smallest unit to the most imposing.

You can follow all the steps in the manufacturing chain, from the arrival of the materials to the finished product, and discover the various techniques and tools used in the 19th century in the art of silversmithing. These brick and metal buildings, illuminated by their large windows, invite you to immerse yourself in the history of the site and the Christofle company. You can learn about the working conditions of the time, the company's technical heritage and the skills of the bronze-maker and smelter, whom you will see at work in their workshop.

L'Orfèvrerie, a symbol of the manufacturing industry, became a residence for artists and craftspeople in 2016 and is used as a filming location for TV shows. Life at the site is due to be temporarily interrupted by an extensive programme of refurbishment work.
