The Lake Circuit

Depart from the town of Barèges, latitude 42.9033500 (N 42° 54’ 12”), longitude 0.1019800 (E 0° 6’ 7”)

• Engage between the station buildings (restaurant, ticket office) and join a road on the left. Follow him for about 100m, then leave him for a path to the left. It rises south in the middle of the lawns, then runs along a softwood stand from above and leads to a road.
• Cut it and continue on a path in front that rises to the south. Join a track and follow it for 1.5km. After a bridge, reach a branch line.
• Take a left the path that rises in the valley of Aygues Cluses. At first narrow, the valley widens into successive basins. After crossing a jump, the trail continues into the pine trees and reaches, before a flat and humid area, an intersection. Cross the torrent, climb a grassy cup and reach the hut of Aygues Cluses (2150m) overlooking the lake of Coueyla-Gran.
• From the hut, be attentive: the path orients itself south in the estives. It descends slightly before beginning the ascent that leads to the lakes of Madamète. Follow them and then continue the progression to the Col de Madamète (2509m; magnificent view of the peak of the Neouvial)
• Take a path to the northwest that gently rises on the side of the slope and reaches a small pass. Go down to the right in the stony valley, then find the Tracens Pass trail below (beautiful view of Lake Nère). After crossing a flat area littered with blocks, reach an intersection of trails. - > Possibility of climbing to the Pic de Madamète (2657m) following the ridge to the right (25min A/R).
• Take a right, heading northwest, towards a small pass and descend into a valley towards Lake Tracens. Follow it along the right, cross its weir and continue the descent towards Lac Blanc. Do not reach its shore but fork to the right to reach a more important trail.
• Go down to the right and follow the lake Dera Yunco then that Deths Coubous. Pass over the dam and then, after the hut, continue on the trail first horizontal which then begins a long descent in laces to point 3. Return to the car park by the path taken on the way.
