The castle of Verneuil-sur-Indre is located in the eponymous town, in Indre-et-Loire, 12 km south-east of Loches.
It includes, as was traditional in the region, a 15th century medieval castle with a military vocation, some elements of which (two perpendicular wings and a cylindrical tower with crenellations and machicolations), in overall Gothic style, and a reconstructed square bell tower in 1850, were integrated into an 18th century neoclassical castle.
Influences by François Mansart are notable in this part made up of three central bays at the level of the facades, which are surmounted by domes. Inside, rooms have retained their wood paneling decor.
Adjacent to a golf course, the area with its five-hectare park has housed a training center in recent decades.
A new owner must undertake the construction of accommodation partly dedicated to golfers, an educational farm and an equestrian center. The project was validated by the architect of the Buildings of France since the castle is protected as historical monuments.
If the site is currently closed to the public and will remain so for the duration of the work, the beautiful silhouette of the castle can mark out a walk in the village, near other major sites in the region. Information on +33 2 47 91 82 82.
