Located in the town of Saint-Porchaire, in Charente-Maritime, the gardens of the Château de La Roche Courbon were created in the second half of the 17th century in an elegant French style.
Fallen into oblivion in the 18th century, the site was reborn from its ashes between the 1920s and 1930s under the leadership of its new owner, Paul Chénereau. The latter thus hatches the magnificent gardens that can be admired today and which benefit from the Remarkable Garden label. Built on former marshy land, they have been the subject of titanic works, now exposing themselves to more than 2,500 piles driven into the ground.
An exhibition of twenty panels visible along the walks presents the history of these atypical gardens, from prehistory to today.
