The Château de la Bouthière is located in the town of Saint-Léger-sous-Beuvray, in Saône-et-Loire, 18 km west of Autun.
It was originally a fortified house which in the 13th century was the seat of the seigniory belonging to the de la Boutière family, itself coming under the castellany of Glenne.
Located on a strategic axis already used by the Romans and leading to Mont Beuvray, the building was remodeled in the 15th and 16th centuries. From the Middle Ages date the cellars, on which are then built the two dwellings flanked by towers, the whole being endowed with an entrance porch.
Having changed owners several times, after the Revolution, the castle (often simply called "manor") was for a time transformed into an agricultural building then, finally preserved, it was completed by contemporary constructions and divided into different dwellings.
However, the old dwelling, the towers (one being formerly called "the prison tower" and the other equipped with gunboats) but also the porch can be easily distinguished.
The whole remains private property and is not open to visitors. The exteriors can, however, punctuate a walk in this green town which provides access to the famous Mont Beuvray, one of the great peaks of the Morvan, once occupied by a Gallic oppidum... Inquire on +33 3 85 86 80 38.
