The castle of La Renaudie is located in the town of Saint-Front-la-Rivière, in the Dordogne, 17 km northeast of Brantôme en Périgord.
It is precisely located to the south of the town, near the place called "Béléterie".
It was rebuilt in the 15th century on the foundations of a 13th century building which had been destroyed during the Hundred Years War.
As early as 1454, the lord of the place Guy du Barry had paid homage to the King of Navarre for his fief of Renaudie. His descendant Bertrand du Barry was rewarded in 1507 for services rendered to the sovereign, Alain d'Albret, of whom he was chamberlain. La Renaudie then becomes a castellany.
Then it was Jean du Barry, renowned as a Calvinist leader, who owned the château.
At its peak, the estate consisted of a castle with a main building and four towers of unequal size at each corner.
Listed in the Inventory, the castle is now in ruins overgrown. We can only distinguish the bases of a Renaissance tower, sculpted elements in the Gothic style (old fireplace) and openings...
