Lac de la Plagne is located in the vast commune of Peisey-Nancroix, in the department of Savoie, 13 km east of La Plagne-Tarentaise.
Located to the south of the town, at an altitude of 2144 m, its surface area is 7.6 hectares and its maximum depth reaches 19 m in places, making it one of the most remarkable in the Vanoise.
Surrounded by snow-capped peaks, including in the summer season, bordering the Grattaleu and Verdet lakes, it is accessible via a hike to be covered from May to October which partly follows the legendary GR5 route, this hiking trail linking the North Sea to the Mediterranean via the Alps and 2200 km long.
To reach the lake, the 14 km route with an elevation gain of 700 m starts from the Roseul refuge and includes viewpoints over waterfalls and rocky escarpments created by man hundreds of years ago.
In summer, it is common on the path to have to step over streams and come across cows taking advantage of the mountain pastures whose milk makes it possible to produce Beaufort...
There is also a wealth of wildlife along the route and around the lake itself, with marmots, roe deer or bearded vultures.
Blue in color, the waters of the lake are suitable for fishing on Tuesdays, Thursdays, Sundays and public holidays from June to September: the lake management association carries out fish rearing for trout and salmon... comply with regulations.
