Religious building located in the 5th district of Paris, at 252 rue Saint-Jacques, the church of Saint-Jacques-du-Haut-Pas is now listed as an historic monument.
A first church was built in the late sixteenth century by order of Catherine de Medici who wished to honor the relics of St. Magloire. Quickly too small, it is modified in the seventeenth century by Gaston d'Orleans, brother of Louis XIII. The building will be looted in 1793, and will be occupied by theophilanthropes in 1797. The church then becomes the temple of the House of Commons. It was not until the early nineteenth century and Napoleon I to resume its original role. It is then greatly embellished, including the addition of the organ and pulpit came straight from the chapel Saint-Benoît-le-Bétourné. Paintings and sculptures will also be installed.
