The Château de Laly is located in the town of Montet, in the department of Allier, 23 km north-west of Saint-Pourçain-sur-Sioule.
Located to the west of the town, the site is mentioned as a fortified house from the beginning of the 16th century, half of which belonged to Gaspard le Bret, already lord of Bellabre, Gramont and Montet where he had the right to justice, on the one hand, and to Françoise de Rousset, who derives part of her income from the woods, crops and vines dependent on the estate, on the other hand.
The castle, which now looks more like a manor house, was restored in the 19th century. The whole is in the form of a main building with a rectangular plan, raised on three levels (the second floor acting as an attic), and framed at the corners by two square pavilions set at right angles.
We observe that the windows positioned symmetrically at the level of the dwelling are decorated with lintels, but that only skylights illuminate the attic.
Owned for a long time by the Gaulmin family, the Château de Laly is still private property. It is not open to visitors.
The noble exteriors of the estate can nevertheless mark out a walk in the countryside surrounding the village of Montet, with its landscapes announcing the Bourbonnais.
