Inaugurated at the beginning of the 20th century, the Mining Museum of Molay-Littry is one of the oldest mining museums in France. Installed on the former mining site of Littry exploited since the 18th century, it originally revealed a fine collection of tools and machines.
Enlarged and improved in the 1950s, the Mining Museum now features a reconstructed mine gallery. The latter extends over 70 meters and presents the evolution of mining from the 18th to the 19th century.
Modernized in the 2020s, the site allows you to discover a video documentary on the history of the mine, an interpretation trail of the excavations, a steam engine or even wooden sedans and other collections of objects..
At the exit of the mine gallery, visitors can also admire a room dedicated to Saint Barbara with, in particular, an altar painting representing the patron saint of miners. A 1/10th scale model of seat no. 5 of the Bruay-en-Artois coal mine completes this visit to the past.
