A fortified castle in the neo-Gothic-Burgundy style, the castle of La Rochepot takes place in the department of Côte-d'Or, on the remains of an old fortress burnt down in the eleventh century. In ruins after the French Revolution, it was bought at the end of the 19th century by the wife of President Sadi Carnot, who offered it to her eldest son.
For more than twenty-five years, the castle was then the subject of a major restoration campaign to take on the face we know it today. The large tower is inspired by pavements from the end of the Middle Ages, and the whole is based on the model of the castle of Châteauneuf-en-Auxois, in particular for the sculpted decorations and the dormer windows.
The interior houses a weapons room, with a collection of ancient weapons and armor, ceremonial rooms, an imposing kitchen, as well as a Chinese room donated by the Empress of China Tzu-Hi at Sadi Carnot.
Bought in 2015 by a Ukrainian arms dealer, closed in 2018, its content will unfortunately be scattered during the auction on October 10, 2021.
