The castle of Eyjeaux is located in the town of the same name, in the department of Haute-Vienne, 15 km south-east of Limoges.
It was in 1441 that Foulques de Junhac, a squire by trade, received permission to build a pleasure residence on land located to the northeast of the current village.
The rectangular building nevertheless originally had four watchtower turrets (one at each corner of the dwelling), a corbelled defensive dormer window above the door, a projecting square tower housing a staircase in screws and a palisade around the castle. Any other military device or fortification was then forbidden to him…
Subsequently, one of the turrets was replaced at the southwest corner by a large circular tower.
The castle has for the rest undergone only a few alterations but well maintained, it has retained a very proud and noble appearance.
Inside the dwelling, which has three floors, fireplaces with carved decorations have been preserved.
The ensemble clearly heralds the Renaissance (new windows were added in the 16th century) and remains a fine example of pleasure architecture after the troubles of the Hundred Years War.
Property listed in the Inventory is always private. However, it can be admired from the outside, within its bucolic environment. A hiking trail has also been traced in the locality.
