Commune des Hauts-de-France, Bourbourg is situated in the department of Nord, in the arrondissement of Dunkerque. Set in the former maritime Flanders, it is ideally placed to discover this region of France, as well as neighboring Belgium.
Bourbourg takes its name from the old Dutch, Broec borc, meaning the City of the Swamp. This refers to its implantation which demanded the draining of several territories over the centuries. Separated in two from the French Revolution, between the people and the bourgeoisie, this commune of the North also developed at this period with an important industrial activity. The drainage of the marshes highlights fertile land, perfect for the cultivation of vegetables and other cereals.
Today, the municipality of Bourbourg is known for its tourist activity, as well as for its various entertainment organized throughout the year.
