Palace Rohan Bordeaux was built in 1771 and 1784 at the initiative of the Archbishop of the city, Ferdinand Maximilian Mériadec Rohan.
However, this symbol of the power of the archbishops of Bordeaux at the time, built near the St. Andrew's Cathedral, is soon confronted with the vicissitudes of history. At the Revolution, the palace changed its status and houses the hotel department, and successively became the headquarters of the Revolutionary Court, the hotel of the prefecture, an imperial palace (under Napoleon) and a royal castle (under the Restoration). Finally, in 1835, he became the City Hall Bordeaux.
Architecturally, the Palais Rohan reports to the neoclassical style, and his monumental remains however marked by sobriety.
It is accessed via a portico including Hellenistic elements closing a courtyard on which gives the facade. Composed of a building flanked by two wings at right angles, the building houses decorated rooms including woodwork with plant motifs, a dining room decorated with a trompe l'oeil (evoking the Antiquity, as was the fashion of the time, especially in the Bordeaux region) and a monumental staircase of honor that experts deem copy of the art of stone.
The council chamber, typical of the architecture of the Third Republic, dated 1880, like English gardens at the rear.
