Séjour de Céline et ses amis
We stayed at Carole's house for few days during a little getaway with friends (usa). Carole had sent us ahead of time tons of useful information about what to do in and around Parthenay, and had even contacted the tourism office to send us the program of activities in the town. Claudette, who welcomed us, was very flexible and helpful for both checking in and checking out. All of us (4 adults and 5 teenagers) had a great time there. The house is incredible, better than what pictures can describe. This 14th century house has so much character. Each nook and cranny has something unusual and fun. There was obviously years and years of careful renovation in this 3 story building. It is a true medieval house which provides all the comforts of 21st century house : clean and functional bathrooms with superb shower on main living floor (one of the best I have ever seen), microwave, dishwasher, cooking range with hood, well stocked kitchen with all you need to create lovely meals, plenty of hot water for everyone's showers, and comfortable beds. The house also stays incredibly cool even when it is hot outside, and we could create nice breeze with the removable mosquito screens. The owner had made sure that we had fans in each bedroom for the upper floors. We ate everyday outside on the private court, enjoying the old stones and blue sky. There is plenty of parking right next to the house and we did not use our car the whole time we were in Parthenay, walking everywhere. We were few minutes away from all the shops, few minutes away from the castle, the tourism office, the river. We even went to the grocery store by foot, only 9 minutes away. Many adorable little stairs and paths everywhere to explore. The lady at the tourism office was very knowledgeable and helpful. The only thing we missed was the jardin Férolle, which was supposed to be open until 10pm but had the gates closed when we went around 7pm. Overall, a fantastic stay in a beautiful medieval home, which for us a once-in-a-life-time experience.
