Located in the heart of the beautiful region of Béarn in the south-west of France, our cottages have been converted from the barns of our Béarnaise farmhouse. The lively little town of Monein is only two kilometers away and we are located in the heart of the Jurançon wine region. On three acres of farmland, we are surrounded by hills and vineyards, easily accessible by the myriad of paths that reach villages and hamlets beyond our back door. With a private aspect, The Cottage has a separate living room, dining room and kitchen, with 2 bedrooms (1 double and 2 singles), a luxury bathroom and a downstairs toilet. The private garden and patio is a great place to watch the sunset with a glass of Jurancon ! The cottage had been equipped to comply with the three-star standard and includes ; - Kitchen - fully equipped with electric oven and gas stove, dishwasher, washing machine, fridge-freezer, microwave and a wide variety of kitchen equipment and utensils. You can access a lot of activities of Gîtes de Bernet … - The magnificent Pyrenees mountain range is clearly visible from our property and several ski resorts, both French and Spanish and ideal for beginner and expert skiers, are within 1-2 hours drive. Nordic skiing, snowshoeing, dog sledding and sledding can be found at or near our local La Pierre Saint Martin ski resort. The fantastic landscape is ideal for outdoor activities in the hottest months too. A wide variety of other outdoor activities can be found nearby. The hilly landscape attracts cyclists (the Tour de France passes nearby each year). Hikers will find a host of trails through vineyard-covered hills, with fantastic views of the mountains, or in the mountains themselves. If you enjoy fishing, the world salmon fishing championships take place every year around Navarrenx. The area has many streams full of trout and salmon, as well as several fishing lakes. The rivers are also ideal for rafting, canoeing, kayaking, canyoning and swimming - or take the opportunity to picnic while trying to spot dragonflies and kingfishers. Horse riding is available In Monein and elsewhere. The beautiful landscape, which forms the backdrop of all these activities, is an attraction for photographers and artists. The region is rich in wildlife ; watch out for birds such as egrets, green woodpeckers, flycatchers, peregrine falcons and eagles. The gite is set in the heart of Jurancon wine region. The sweet white wines are famous, being harvested at the end of the year, making them ideal for an aperitif. The dry Jurançon is harvested in the fall and perfectly accompanies fish, seafood and cheese. With many excellent vineyards within a short distance, you are spoiled for choice ! Tastings and tours can be organized throughout the year. If you prefer red wines, Béarn reds and Madiran, near Pau, are perfect with the local ewe's cheese, blonde d'Aquitaine beef, duck and foie gras ; all very typical of the region. The historic and picturesque towns of Monein (2 km), Navarrenx, Oloron, Orthez and Sauveterre de Béarn are nearby and the spa town of Salies de Béarn, famous for its salt, is worth visiting during your stay with us. All have many parties throughout the year and restaurants where you can discover the local cuisine. A day trip to the historic and picturesque city of Pau, just 25 minutes is not to be missed. With a host of cultural, tourist, shopping, culinary and sporting opportunities for all ages. If you have children, there are several centers of outdoor climbing activities, a water park, a municipal swimming pool in Monein, a bowling alley, animal parks, mountain train rides and many more near our gite.
