Built on the outskirts of the Cantalian volcano, on ancient lava flows, the western gateway to the Auvergne Volcanoes Park, mauriac Country is surrounded by different natural regions, the Upper Dordogne Valley and the Cantal Mountains (Puy Mary), each offering an incredible diversity of landscapes. With a remarkable civil and religious heritage, it is not uncommon to come across a Romanesque chapel, a feudal castle or a monumental cross, a washhouse, a communal oven. Nearby you can enjoy Salers, Puy-Mary, Eagle and Edge Organs dams, Vulcania, winter sports resorts (Besse and Lioran) as well as hikes (available for documentation), the Legal Pass (ski resort) just 50 minutes away.
