The Holiday Chalet chatox

If you are looking for a 4-bedroom comfortable, well-equipped 'home from home' in an untouristy area of France (but only a 40-minute drive to the beautiful Annecy) then you don't need to look at any further. Le Chatox is a lovely chalet with plenty of room for us (a family of 5). It was spotlessly clean on arrival and everything is in excellent working order. We appreciated the garage with table tennis and darts, the very comfortable beds, having an upstairs and downstairs bathroom and being able to sit out on the balcony and look at the lovely view. The chalet has a few guest books which contain excellent suggestions for places to visit and the inhabitants of the village, Le Chatelard, are very friendly (many are artists who have their studios in the village). There is so much to see and do; we left very reluctantly after a week - we wished we could have stayed for longer! The weather was extremely warm during our stay and we would have appreciated a few electric fans to make sleeping a little easier (we closed the windows and shutters during the day but it was still very hot!). The communication with Paul and Wendy was extremely efficient and pleasant.

Le Chatox is a beautifully appointed family home from which enjoy a beautiful and relaxing part of France. Access to skiing, cycling, walking or sightseeing in an uncrowded environment is unparalleled and at the end of the day being able to relax in the luxury of Le Chatox makes it the perfect holiday location.

Just returned from an amazing stay at Le Chatox chalet. We have stayed all over France over the last 15 years but nothing comes close to the quality and location of "Le Chatox". The chalet is spacious and extremely comfortable with everything to make it a home from home which the owners Paul and Wendy are very keen to provide. An additional benefit is the large garage underneath the property otherwise known as the "cave" which provides ample storage space for bikes etc, but there is also a full size table tennis table and dart board which provided hours of very competitive family entertainment. The help and advice Paul and Wendy provided prior to the holiday was excellent and they genuinely want their guests to enjoy their stay. You are provided with a very informative "Le Chatox pack" prior to departure which provides all the information you require about the property and the local area. Paul and Wendy are keen cyclists and there are numerous maps and suggested rides in the chalet. My favourite ride was Paul's breakfast ride which is a 16 km ride with numerous hairpin bends with fantastic views. Top quality e-bikes are also available to hire from Paul and Wendy and are highly recommended for less serious cyclists and are also extremely useful for a quick morning trip into the local charming village (Le Chatelard) for the bread and croissant breakfast run ! The local area is stunning with numerous activities and places to visit. Lake Annecy is obviously the biggest attraction and the old town is great for wandering around with great selection of restaurants etc. and we would definitely recommend hiring a small self drive motorboat on the lake. The cycle ride around Lake Annecy is another must do as it is mostly flat and nearly all on a purpose built cycleway, mountains one side and the lake on the other, fantastic ride ! There are a number of lakeside beaches at Lake Annecy which provide access to the crystal clear waters that are wonderful to swim in. We visited a number of them but our favourites were at Talloires (small fee payable but lots of facilities including a diving board and pontoons), Sevrier and Doussard. We also visited Chatillon on Lake Bourget which is a very scenic drive from Le Chatox where we had a lovely meal at La Plage restaurant overlooking the lake. We also visited Aillions-Margeriaz which is the local ski resort in winter but in summer you can use the ski lifts to get to the top of the mountain for spectacular views. There is also a heated outdoor swimming pool at Allions which was great value and very clean. There is also a local swimming lake at Lescheraines which is about 10 mins drive from Le Chatox and has a lakeside beach and tennis courts for hire with a excellent lakeside bar and restaurant. Our teenage children also really enjoyed the canyoning which can booked through Terres d'Altitude who have an office in Le Chatelard. I cannot recommend this property enough and we will definitely return. Thank you Paul and Wendy for a fantastic and memorable holiday. We have been well and truly Chatoxed !
