A visitors view of the villa. "Merlot is a wonderful villa, in a peaceful rural French village. The owners have equipped the property exceptionally well, thinking of everything you could need (and lots of home comforts) and there is very thing you could need for a fantastic holiday. There are several outside seating areas giving you options of sun or shade throughout the day. The interior give a living area, 3 bedrooms (one ensuite) and a further shower room/toilet. The property is air conditioned and has WiFi. The property has its own locked drive way with more than adequate space and is on a quiet road. The pool is great, private and peaceful and cool after sitting in the sun. The property is well placed to explore the local areas and attractions for example Pézenas (With large weekly market on Saturdays), Agde, and the dinosaur park. But also only just over an hours drive to Carcassone and Aigues-Mortes. Pézenas is the closest town and offers a range of supermarkets and restaurants. The owners are great and John was a great source of local knowledge and advice and together they are wonderful hosts". Duncan - The house is in a quiet road on the edge of Aumes, a village overlooking the Herault valley, and has its own private pool and garden. Not far from Pezenas, Montagnac and the sea. Aumes is wondeful little village, in the countryside and surrounded by vineyards and woods and so the villa really is great for days out where walking and cycling is easy and safe. We live in the village and will be happy to contribute ideas to help make your holiday as enjoyable as possible, if you wish us to. You will be about 25 minutes from the Mediterranean with its many 'Blue Flag' beaches. The nearest beaches are around Meze or Marseillan Plage, although the whole coastline is accessible and the beaches sandy. The beach at Rochlongue is ideal for younger children, having a gradual slope into the sea, and being protected by a breakwater, there are rocky pools in which to play and easy access by car. Staying in Aumes will allow you to take advantage of a wonderfully diverse region of France which embraces the real spirit of France. We have lived in this area since 1981. Your nearest town, Pezenas, 10 minutes from Aumes and probably the most well known market town in the area where most of the houses date from the 17th century. The Saturday market is a must, it takes over the town center. Local produce including an impressive organic farmers market. The whole of the old town, which has officially been classified as part of the French National Heritage is original, and it is as it was when Moliere and his theatrical company used to live here. Throughout the 17th century, to be near the governors of the Languedoc province, the aristocracy built impressive private mansions with inner courtyards and gardens. Called the Little Versailles, Pezenas has a wide range of arts and crafts, restaurants and visits. Aumes is great, lying between mountains and sea, beaches are only twenty minutes drive away. You will find plenty to keep the whole family occupied and happy. Most things are available in the shops, entertainment is what you would expect from an area which mixes old and new cultures. It's all here, you only need to visit the tourist office and you will to find all you need to enjoy your stay. In the house book you will find all sorts of information and ideas and a visitors book to let you know what others have done on their holiday. From your holiday villa you will be able to travel to Spain and back in one day, maybe visiting the Salvador Dali museum, or even staying overnight in Barcelona and visiting the amazing Gaudi Cathedral. There are dozens of visits to make. The Camargue with its black bulls, white horses and flamingos are close, you will be able to go on safari in a 4x4 with a guide. The upper Hérault river has one way canoeing. You can visit Carcassonne, a walled town with huge battlements and turrets, a really romantic setting. Most villages have their own market day, perfect to buy a baguette, some cheese and relax.
