On the west coast of Grande-Terre island, not far from Morne-à-l'Eau and Petit-Canal, lies Vieux-Bourg, a charming little fishing village surrounded by mangrove swamps, famous for its wild, unspoilt environment.
The ideal starting point for a tour by kayak or sea bike, from the famous nature reserve of the Grand Cul-de-Sac Marin and its protected islets, Vieux-Bourg is also famous for its pretty Babin beach, which is like no other on Grande-Terre. Indeed, there is no fine sand or clear water here, only mud baths that are known for their healing properties and are popular with many residents of Guadeloupe. Some people even come from far away to enjoy the benefits of its clay sediments, said to ease rheumatism and make the skin feel softer! This pleasant, peaceful site is also a very popular picnic spot. A specially created footpath starting next to the beach enables nature-lovers to explore the riches of the mangrove swamp.
