Nestling in a romantic verdant setting by a pretty river, beneath an elegant castle, Thévalles watermill, in the commune of Chémeré-le-Roi near Saulges, is located in one of the most beautiful places in the Erve Valley! The only watermill open to visitors in Mayenne, Thévalles watermill has an exceptional mechanism on 4 levels, dating from 1850 and weighing over thirty tonnes, with a hydraulic wheel measuring 5.6 metres in diameter and 2 metres wide! This watermill is a listed Historic Monument, and its mechanism is turned on for every guided tour. It produces spelt flour, an ancient cereal rich in amino-acids, minerals and oligo-elements which is once more being grown near the site.
