The collegiate church of Saint-Thiébaut de Thann is one of the most representative buildings of the Rhine Gothic in Alsace. Its construction lasted from the end of the thirteenth century to 1516: year when the arrow of more than 78 m high was completed, true stone lace.
Its large portal is unique in France: three tympanums recall through 150 scenes the life of the Virgin, the Nativity and the Crucifixion.
The three forms of Gothic style are represented in the church, primitive, radiant and flamboyant.
The chapel of Saint-Thiébaut (at the bottom of the church on the right) is the part of the oldest collegiate church, it dates from the end of the thirteenth century.
In the choir, the stalls are adorned with 169 characters. It is one of the most important ensembles in Alsace.
The stained glass windows (1423-1431) are spread over 8 15-meter high windows, testifying to the richness of the building, a place of pilgrimage to Saint-Thiébaut from the thirteenth century.
* A collegiate church is a church in which a canon college has been established. That of Thann owes its name to the college of canons of Saint-Amarin who settled there in 1442.
