Meillant Castle - Tourism, holidays & weekends guide in the Cher

At the heart of Berry, Meillant Castle graces the municipality of the same name with its remarkable building surrounded by greenery. A listed Historic Monument, it is indisputably one of the jewels in Berry's crown!

This harmonious architectural ensemble, built in the 14th and 15th centuries and entirely restored from 1842 onwards, replaced the old fortress built in the 11th century. The western façade has kept its medieval identity, while the richly adorned eastern façade, where the emblematic Lion Tower stands, is a fine example of the Flamboyant Gothic style. The rooms, including the magnificent state rooms, are sumptuously furnished and decorated. You can admire a beautiful collection of Bruges tapestries and a superb dining room with leather wallpaper.

The main courtyard houses a 16th-century Flamboyant Gothic chapel with beautiful stained glass windows. The outbuildings consist of the stables, a tack room and the farmer's house. The castle is surrounded by a large park of five hectares with century-old trees and remarkable species, with small streams winding their way through it. The property has a museum of miniatures, a collection of carriages, and a children's house with period toys. Children will love the mysterious tour featuring magic tricks.
