France's certified small towns of character are places with remarkable built heritage, promoted and maintained for all to enjoy. These typical towns are uniquely charming thanks to their picturesque houses, craft shops and artists' studios.

In Morbihan, stop by Josselin, a medieval suburb with pretty old half-timbered houses. Stroll through the Sainte-Croix district around the chapel and enjoy the peaceful location before heading to the castle. See how its towers are reflected in the calm waters of the Oust. Built in the Flamboyant Gothic style, it dates back to the 15th century and dominates the village. To this day, it is still inhabited by the descendants of its founders, the Rohans.

Standing on a rocky spur, Rochefort-en-Terre is one of the most beautiful towns of character in the department! Be enchanted by its old corbelled houses, cobbled streets in bloom and entirely pedestrianised old town. In the castle park, you can also discover the remnants of its 12th-century medieval fortress.

Known as "the pearl of the Oust", Malestroit charms visitors with its authenticity. Admire the old half-timbered houses, some of which still feature figurines from the Middle Ages. On a walk, you can see a few traces of old fortifications from the 15th century, and visit the Church of St. Giles.

Other towns of character that are well worth a visit are Questembert for its pretty and very well-preserved 16th-century covered market, and La Roche-Bernard for the beautiful views of the Vilaine and the marina from its rocky promontory.
