Not far from Villefranche-de-Rouergue, in a peaceful, verdant setting in the commune of Martiel, stands the Cistercian abbey of Loc-Dieu, whose shape resembles that of a castle. Founded in 1123, then fortified in the 15th century, the old abbey still has a beautiful Romanesque church made of ochre stone, as well as a Gothic cloister rebuilt circa 1470. All around the monastic complex lies a romantic park complete with a lake, ideal for a leisurely stroll. A watchtower at the highest point of the park also offers a lovely view of the surrounding area.
