Nestling on the banks of the Andelle, in a romantic, verdant setting in the commune of Radepont, the Cistercian Abbey of Our Lady of Fontaine-Guérard, founded in the late 12th century, is a superb example of Anglo-Norman Gothic architecture.

Part of the Historic Norman Abbey Route, this old nunnery, open to the public from April to October, has retained a number of relics from its past: the ruins of the abbey church with its vaulted chancel; the 15th-century Chapel of St. Michael; the troglodytic cellar; and the nuns' building with its beautiful chapterhouse, work room and dormitory.

Additional information
Fontaine-Guérard Abbey

Cistercian abbey of 13th century women, classified Historic Monument.

It belongs stylistically to the Norman Gothic style in its early form and has characteristics unique to Normandy. It is notably remarkable in the capitular room largely open on the former cloister, disappeared today. Articulating with the ruins of the abbey church, the claustral building closing to the east the convent quadrilateral is practically intact. It is a homogeneous ensemble of high quality, including its two rooms on the ground floor (chapter house and working room of the nuns) and its dormitory on the floor. This is a notable testimony to both the Anglo-Norman monastic architecture of the early 13th century and the plan generally adopted in the Cistercian abbeys. Moreover, the preserved buildings have hardly been modified in the centuries following the Middle Ages, the visitor discovers the abbey under its medieval appearance.

Also to be discovered, the monastic gardens: garden of the simple, garden of the elements, garden of meditation.
