A gem of the town of Évron, the Basilica of Our Lady of the Thorn, built in the 10th-14th centuries, is a remarkable example of medieval religious architecture. In the Romanesque and Gothic style, this historic monument, topped by an 11th-century tower, is the most important religious building in Mayenne.

Once inside, discover all its features one by one: its imposing Romanesque nave, Gothic chancel, and superb Chapel of St Crispin from the 12th century. The latter has four 17th-century Aubusson tapestries within its walls, depicting scenes from the Old Testament, a wall painting of Christ in Majesty, statues of saints, and above all the centrepiece of the basilica: the magnificent statue of Our Lady of the Thorn, made of oak and decorated with silver strips, made in the 13th century.

In early July, Évron basilica hosts a Sacred Arts festival with music concerts, exhibitions and conferences.
