Rising in the middle of trees in the place of the ancient castle, the Saint-Louis royal chapel overlooks the historic centre of Dreux. This chapel of Neo-Classical style is the cemetery of the Orléans family. The stained glass windows made in the factory of Sèvres, as well as the recumbent effigies lying in the crypt of the chapel, are exceptional examples of 19th-century art.

Discovery of the city continues below the royal chapel, with the Saint-Pierre church, the 16th-century bell tower, the pedestrian streets and the Marcel Dessal Art and History museum.

Lined with footpaths, the national forest of Dreux will delight walkers, cyclists and riders.

Additional information
Dreux

Capital of the Gallic tribe of "Durocasses", Dreux was in the Gallo-Roman era, a busy road intersection. In the Middle Ages, its castle, one of the most powerful of all the Ile de France, stood as an advanced sentinel of the Capetian domain in front of the rival power of the Dukes of Normandy. If the city has undergone several sieges over the ages, including those of Henri IV, it has always found, after having recovered its ruins, a new prosperity, thanks to the commercial activity and the creativity of its inhabitants. But, unlike a legend spread from the romantic era to the nineteenth century and exploiting a whimsical etymology, Dreux is not the capital of the Druids.

Specialty: pastry: Durocasse (comes from the former designation of the inhabitants of the city); Cheese: the sheet of Dreux.
