Nestling in a wonderfully scenic setting in the hills around Saint-Pierre, at the foot of the Pelée mountain and opposite the Caribbean Sea, the Depaz distillery is known for its famous cane juice rum. This was first produced on 8 May 1917 by Victor Depaz, who had returned from his studies in Bordeaux following the death of his entire family during the terrible volcanic eruption in 1902.

The estate is open to the public and can be explored with an audio-guide or just by walking along a very informative trail dotted with information signs. And in the harvest period, from March to June, you can watch the machines in operation and see rum being made! On your way around the estate you can also admire the Château Depaz, an elegant home built by Victor Depaz, and its majestic albizia. This is one of Martinique's most prestigious plantation houses and is a replica of the Jesuits' house in Périnelle, where Victor Depaz spent his childhood.

Before rounding off your tour with a tasting of old or golden rum, you can also take a look at the ageing cellars, as well as a small museum with a collection of old machines.
