Overlooking the Taurion valley, the city of Bourganeuf, founded in the 12th century by the Knights Hospitaller of St. John of Jerusalem, offers visitors its medieval heritage.
Not to be missed: the three towers of the old castle, among which the Zizim tower, a high round tower built in the 15th century to accommodate the imprisoned Ottoman prince Djem, nicknamed Zizim. Open to visitors, this tower has a magnificent roof structure, and is home to objects from archaeological excavations.
Also to be visited is Saint-Jean church which was built, like the castle, by the Knights Hospitaller in the Middle Ages, and contains an old pipe organ that is a listed instrument.
