Located deep in the peaceful Auvergne countryside, twenty kilometres from Mauriac and Riom-ès-Montagnes, Auzers Castle was built in the 14th, 15th and 16th centuries. It is a typical example of medieval architecture, with its imposing round towers, bartizans, machicolations and wall walk.
Inhabited by the same family since the 15th century, this superb building is a listed Historic Monument and is open to the public from Easter to All Saints' Day. During the guided tour, you can therefore admire the wood panelling and Regency furniture in the drawing rooms on the first floor, the vaulted dining room adorned with a monumental fireplace and Auvergne furniture, then the oratory dedicated to St. James in Compostela, decorated with remarkable polychrome murals from the 16th century.
A flower-filled park and a lovely view of the Mounts of Cantal complete the experience most pleasantly.
