The small town of Argentan, located at the confluence of the Orne and the Ure, is famous for its lace. Despite damage during the Second World War, it has preserved some fine monuments, including the Gothic, Renaissance and Classical Saint-Germain church; the 14th-century Château des Ducs, today housing the law courts; Saint-Nicolas chapel, once serving the château and now the tourist office; Marguerite tower, a vestige of the old fortifications; and Saint-Martin church with its beautiful old stained-glass windows.
Argentan lace museum (Maison des Dentelles et du Point d'Argentan), set on the edge of the lovely Noé park in a 19th-century bourgeois house, recounts the history of Argentan lace from the 17th century to today through unique collector's pieces.
Argentan is also famous for its racecourse where regular horse competitions and races are held.
