Access

Yssingeaux is located to the west of the Haute-Loire department. Follow the RN88 and exit after Monistrol when coming from Lyon, Saint-Etienne.

Starting point: 'Antreuil car park at the entrance to Yssingeaux.

Itinerary

Itinerary not signposted:

1. Cross the car park to Re des Alliés then veer right on to Avenue Clémenceau.

2. Turn left to Place de la Victoire and walk to Avenue de la Marne: turn left (pass the Penitents Chapel and Saint-Roch Museum). At the fork in the road, veer right and, after about 50 m, a street leads off on the right.

3. Take Rue Louis-Jouvet, pass through a housing estate and continue to the top of Saint-Roch hill, surmounted by a cross (two orientation tables).

4. Walk down the hill along a path that runs through the broom and then, after the stairs, join a street. Turn left at the first fork in the road and make your way to the second fork in the road.

5. Take the road on the right which becomes a narrow path. At the junction, turn left on to Rue des Fossés. Then, turn right a few metres further on and turn left on to the narrow street.

6. When you reach Place du Marche, veer right on to Rue des Farges and continue to Rue Saint-Antoine. Turn left and then take the second street on the right, Rue Carnot.

7. When you reach Place Carnot, cross it and take Rue Mercière which leads to a crossroads. Turn right and walk along Place du Maréchal-Foch, pass the Town Hall and then the church and return to Avenue Clémenceau. Cross it and turn left to Antreuil car park.
