Access

From Épinal, make your way towards Xertigny via the D434. After passing Les Quatre Vents, you will cross a forest. On the way out, after seeing a Lorraine Cross on your left, turn left and when you see a small road at the entrance to a slight bend, stop and park at the car park near the cross.

Itinerary

From the car park, walk 30 m downhill and, at the FFI monument (1), turn left on to a small road that passes between two houses, then turn right and follow the signposting with a yellow dot. You will arrive at a gravel forest path.

3 km further on, you will see the sign for Dinozé Forest and you should continue straight ahead. You will then pass near the hamlet of Pierre Torelle (2), at an altitude of 415 m. Stay on the path and, slightly further on, start to climb. When you reach the top, you will see an old military structure on your right (battery 3) at an altitude of 433 m.

On your right, firstly, through the trees, you will see the Moselle valley upstream from Épinal, then the Bésonfosse valley in the municipality of Dinozé. You will also see this old grove of Scots pines at least 150 years old.

After climbing a gentle slope, you will arrive at an intersection between the forest paths of Pierre Torelle and Sauteur. Turn left and enter Épinal Forest. The route dominates the Etranglieux and the Taviane valley along which you arrived from Épinal. At the crossroads formed by the path to the fort (4), the more athletic will leave the trail on the left and make their way to the entrance of the structure (750 m round trip). The others will continue to the crossroads between four paths on the way out of the forest.

Turn left and walk about 100 m along a field and enter the forest again. The small road leads you straight back to where you started. On your right, as you arrive, you will see a Lorraine Cross, surrounded by a small botanical park.
