Itinerary

The path, which is in very good condition, climbs to a first flat section (about 1.5 km) then, after a short steep climb, you arrive at the vast Molière plateau which overlooks the valley of Grenoble above the village of Engins. The path is then almost completely flat and passes through huge pastures where, in the summer months, you will find herds of grazing cattle. On offer are magnificent views over the French Alps as far as Mont-Blanc, easily recognisable in the distance. After about 5 km you will arrive at the Molière car park (forest road coming from Autrans 12 km away) which is very busy in the summer. Turn back and either follow the path you arrived on back to where you started, or take the very interesting variant over the ridges which dominate the plateau. The views over the Alps and the Vercors are exceptional. In the latter case (variant), go to Bellecombe Pass and join the path you arrived on below on your left. A refuge on the plateau serves food and drinks if you have forgotten to bring enough with you. Good walkers may continue this itinerary from the car park to Sornin or the peaks (easy access) dominating Autrans (count a further 10 km). This walk can be enjoyed on snow shoes in the winter or on cross-country skis from Autrans, but, in both cases, you will need to have a good level of experience.
