A path that winds through the forest, where you will pass close to a lake, a ferruginous spring, to arrive at the highest point in the village at an altitude of 1,204 m, with a view over some of the Vosges summits, such as the Markstein, the Hohneck, the Ballon d'Alsace... on a very clear day, you can even see the Alps!
From the village, pass between the Véternat bar and the estate agents (300 m steep climb).
See transport to get there
After the climb, pass near the fishing lake and turn right. You will pass close to a few houses and arrive at the next crossroads. Turn right again here and continue for 500 m and take the small path (be careful, the stone paving is sometimes slippery, wear good shoes) to the next house (pretty viewpoint) and follow a small flat road for 1 km. Here, there are some more houses. Turn left on to the dirt track to the refuge if you want to take a break. You will have to retrace your footsteps for 200 m, cross the bridge and turn right (ferruginous spring 500 m away), cross a small wooden bridge over the Mercier Path, which winds through the forest (pleasant when it is very hot). At the end of the path, take another dirt track that leads to a farm restaurant which serves refreshments if you wish, and prepare for the final hard work, the climb up the field to the summit where you can enjoy a 360° view over the Vosges mountains. Return to the start of the walk via the same route.
