From the Valley of the Saw to the Wood of Bernouville

• At the intersection of Rue de la Mer, catch up with the Avenue Verte (bike path) on your right towards Pourville-sur-Mer, along the Lower Saw Valley, its flood meadows, ponds, reed beds and exceptional ornithological richness. On the right, you can also admire a - magnificent restored water mill. The Saw Valley counted until 43 in the 19th century

• Take back the Rue des Verts-Bois for about 100 metres, going up towards Varengeville-sur-Mer. - By the way, St. Thomas' Chapel in Canterbury introduces itself to you. The story goes that this archbishop, fleeing the wrath of Henry II of England, landed in Pourville in 1164 and celebrated Mass there. In this church were celebrated mixed marriages (between Catholics - and Protestants) that were forbidden in the city of Dieppe.
• Then resume on the left, the Route de la Mer (D153), for 200 meters before turning on your - right, path of the High Coast Wood. After 100 meters, turn right at the first intersection towards the Wood - of Hautot, also called Bernouville Wood. This coastal wood of about 60 hectares is classified As Espace - Natural Sensitive by the Department of Seine-Maritime, which offers hikes all summer long. Taking the main trail of the site on your left, you will discover, following the route of the GR21, a diversity of forest species (beech, oak, maple, cherry, chestnut trees...), a wealth of ferns characteristic of the wet undergrowth and little exploited by man, as well as the remains of the castle of the Counts of Hautot, which date from the 11th century. Owned by the Princes of Monaco since 1789, the ruins were "offered" to the inhabitants to build the houses of the surrounding area, which - today form the Hamlet of Bernouville.
• After the ruins of the castle, continue the main path on the right, going up towards - the parking lot of the site. Take Bernouville Street on your left, continue along the rural path through - the meadows grazed by the Norman cows so recognizable. This open-air course offers an interesting panorama of Petit-Appeville and the heights of Dieppe. You finally find, by a small - wooden staircase, the Avenue Verte. Head back this time to Petit-Appeville, for a return to - the Church of Saint Remy, the starting point of this hike.
