From Dawn to Vals-des-Tilles

Depart from the town of Vals-des-Tilles, latitude 47.7037760 (N 47° 42’ 14”), longitude 5.0700000 (E 5° 4’ 12”)

• Chalmessin and his washhouse

• Laundry powered by a fountain that flows into a sump. Note the swan beak from which flows the water from the fountain. The fountain is decorated with a shell and a chute in the shape of a snake's head. The troughs no longer drink livestock but are the most beautiful ornament once filled with flowers in the summer. The height of the inner basin testifies to a comfort that did not offer an older laundry, and which forced women to wash on their knees. This wash house, located in the center of the village, no longer exists and the bridge remains the witness of this time. It spans the Tille which has its source in the Nature Reserve upstream of the village. The construction of the current wash house dates from the years 1830-1850 when the mayor of the time, Mr. Joseph VOTROT, decided to remodel the Romanesque chapel by building the current church steeple and a resident of the village, Mr. FLOT decorated the choir in a neo-Byzantine style rather unusual in these countries. Above the village, Gallo-Roman remains have been discovered and are exhibited at the Museum of Langres.

• La Thuilière

• A former metallurgical establishment, La Thuilière belonged to the Abbey of Auberive before the Revolution, and produced refined cast iron in the surrounding area. From the establishment, closed in the middle of the 19th century, only the main hall and the casting hall remain; the blast furnace and the local sheltering the blower were destroyed in 1906.
