• The canal between Champagne and Burgundy

• The canal between Champagne and Burgundy (from the Marne to the Saône) is like the backbone of Haute-Marne. Its realization began in 1862, after a study undertaken between 1839 and 1845. The entire course was completed on February 1, 1907 for a total length of nearly 225 kilometers, including 166 in Haute-Marne. Between the Marne basin and the Saône basin, the threshold of the Langres plateau, the watershed, is crossed by means of a 4.8-kilometer tunnel (the 4th fluvial tunnel in France). It was dug out 118 meters underground and dug between 1882 and 1888. It is 8 meters wide and has a 4-meter high arch. Its route passes just under the village of Balesmes-sur-Marne. The Langres plateau, the highest point of the canal, also required the setting up of 18 locks between the Côte d'Or and Foulain. On the other hand, its higher altitude offered also the best possibility of water supply by gravity. The presence of numerous sources has enabled engineers to guarantee this supply through the construction of 4 reservoir lakes to regulate the level of the canal. Today, when the barges are frequented, there is also river tourism: another way to apprehend the charms and tranquility of the canal, from the port of Cusey.

• Trestondam Chapel

• Chapel registered on the Supplementary Inventory of Historical Monuments January 16, 1939.
• The Saint-Pierre church overlooks the Vingeanne valley. Partly buried, it is surrounded by a cemetery. Built around the year 1100, it is characteristic of the Romanesque period. The central part, older, is from the end of the eleventh century.
• In the 13th century, the church and its cemetery became the center of gravity of the religious life of the region. One liter, band 80 cm high, sign of a funerary chapel, is visible inside the chapel of Trestondam dating from the 15th century.
• From this funeral chapel, the Trestondam, lords of Montormentier, and their successors, were able to follow the office without being seen by other parishioners. Attracted by this land of legend, the lord Richard de Trestondam, on the death of his wife Henriette de Saint-Seine, erected this chapel in 1467, intended for the deaths of his noble family. You can see their tombstone erected in this chapel called Trestondam. We enter the central part by a gently sloping porch on which we can notice in front of the door a stone engraved with a tau, initial of the word temple and a cross engraved above the door representing not the order of the Knights Templar present in the region, especially in La Romagne, but Saint Anthony of Vienna. However the Knights Templar owned land in Montormentier. The sacristy, chapel of Trestondam, was the funerary chapel of this family for nearly three centuries, the lords of Percey were buried there. This building is classified as a historical monument since 1939, the statuary, installed in the choir, is composed mainly of a Saint Peter crowned with a tiara and a Madonna and Child, which were classified in 1971.
• Etymologically, Montormentier would be the "Mont des Torments". A bonfire was erected in Montormentier to burn Brunehaut, queen of Austrasia, victim of wars between the successors of Clovis, dragged by horses from Renève to Montormentier, according to legend.
