Normandy Camembert, a symbol of French gastronomy, was first developed in 1791 in the Pays d'Auge region of the Orne by a farmer's wife from the village of Camembert, on the advice of a nonjuring priest from Brie. This famous soft cow's milk cheese with a bloomy rind that comes packaged in its famous wooden box is known all over the world today.

True Normandy Camembert, which is tender, soft, fruity and strong-tasting all at once and made using unpasteurised milk and the ladle-moulding technique, carries the AOC quality label.

To find out more about its history and production, make a point of visiting the Musée du Camembert in Vimoutiers and the Maison du Camembert in Camembert.
