A culinary speciality of Cher, Nançay shortbread biscuits were invented in 1953 by Jacques Fleurier,an apprentice baker at the time. After he had made a mess of a recipe created by his father, his mother, who did not like to waste things, gave his cooked biscuit dough out to customers of the bakery. They immediately loved this treat, which reminded them of the milk skin flavours of the good old days.
Produced in the traditional way until 2008, Nançay shortbread biscuits are now produced in a small factory that it is possible to visit on request. They are found everywhere in Berry, and on the Internet.
With their unique texture, crunchy, crumbly and tender, Nançay shortbread biscuits can be enjoyed in different ways, especially as an accompaniment to ice cream, coffee or a delicious champagne. Today, they are also available in a chocolate chip version!
